Juliette Gordon Low founded it. Robert Baden-Powell was the man she met while working in New York City. They were married and Juliette sold the strand of pearls she had received on her wedding day. The Girl Scouts organization began with humble beginnings. The first troop was formed by 18 girls in Savannah (Georgia). The troop now has over 3.2 million members.
The Girl Scouts of the USA hired an expert consultant in 2010 to help them improve their organization. The consultants created six "gap teams" to examine the way the organization worked and to make recommendations. Positive changes were implemented.
There are three levels of Girl Scouts. These levels include Ambassador, Senior, or Junior Girl Scouts. Each level has different requirements for badges and badges. A Junior Girl Scout must have completed at least 20 hours service before she can earn her Bronze Award. She must also have completed at least one Journey. If she completes two Journeys, she will be eligible for the Silver Award.

In Orlando, Florida in 2023, the next international convention will take place. Convention attendees will be treated to guest speakers as well as events for more than 10,000 alumni and girls.
